Not a very good "textbook"

The "Notes & Questions" are not very helpful. The author should have thought about his audience more (law students). The author poses questions about topics in early chapters of the book, when those topics haven't even been taught yet (hide the ball). To make it worse, the author doesn't answer the questions posed in the relevant note. The author, instead, provides a link to a case (so be prepared to have your laptop/internet/westlaw handy when reading). Free information available on the Internet provides more value than this scam of a "textbook."

Good collection, but recycles a lot of recipes from other MH books and magazines

The promise in the copy about this being MH's "first cookbook" is very misleading.

I can attest that most of the recipes in this collection are relatively easy to make and taste pretty good, but if you've bought any previous Men's Health books (especially the "Eat This, Not That!" collections), you'll find that almost all of the material in here has been recycled from those books and other hardbacks like "The 8 Hour Diet" and "Belly Off!" There's some new copy, and a different design and layout, but 85% of the actual recipes are old news to me.

Also annoying is that while they were recycling standbys like "Cornmeal Catfish" (very nice dish, BTW) they could have included some of the more interesting stuff from columns in recent issues of MH; there have been some extremely useful columns about roast chicken (by Michael Symone) and proper burger preparation, and 3 course dishes that can be prepared in one baking sheet.

This is still a good stand alone recipe collection; anyone starting out trying to learn new cooking skills might find this book very useful. But it's very annoying to pre-order the book based on the hype in the MH magazine for it, and then discover that MH is following in the tracks of Cook's Illustrated and endlessly repackaging the same 300 recipes over and over again. Plus in spite of their promised "21 one day examine and return" guarantee, Rodale makes it very difficult to actually return the book.

We recently moved into a new home with a very family friendly cooking area. My husband has been chopping, grilling, sauteing, and whipping up delicious meals for the last 3 months.

I saw this advertised in my (yes, I get it for me) Men's Health Magazine and thought it would be a great purchase for him. Of course I ordered it from Amazon because - hey! Who doesn't love better prices and a Prime Membership shipping perk?!

The style of writing in this cookbook is great. Very user friendly and fun. Tips on the actual cooking of meats and veggies, the selection of knives, a list of kitchen "must have" tools and pans and even a crockpot!

I haven't been subscribed to the magazine for more than a year, so for me to have these recipes in one place is a bonus. No more page tear-and-store and never use. (I found the same was nice when I got the Clean Eating Magazine Cookbook 1).

There are recipes in here for breakfast, lunch sandwiches, dinner, date nite, and party night. Also recipes for infused liquors and other drink recipes.

Personally I prefer a cookbook with lots of photos of the food, but they do not offer a picture of every recipe. The book would be much larger I'm assuming and therefore more expensive.

I did order and receive the hardback copy of this book which has a nice gift quality to it.

We did not have any prior copies of any Men's Health cookbooks, but I do own many of the Clean Eating Diet cookbooks so I understand the "recycled recipe" comments.

*Note-- I would say that this book is way cooler than the CE for Men book. So, for the group who may wonder which to select as a gift I would pick this FIRST.

Very good book for a new cook.

This book is exactly four star worthy. It has a lot of information on the equipment you need for your kitchen, information on recipes, how to cook basic meats, and covers a lot of categories. My only gripes is they don't list average preparation time for the meals as a lot of the "30 minute meals" actually take 45 minutes or more. And about 60% of the fast late night meals are different variations of stir fry. Otherwise its great, if these guys rushed out another book, I'd buy it immediately.

About the Author

Guy J. Golan is an assistant professor in the Department of Communication of Seton Hall University. He completed his Masters degree in New York University and his doctorate from the University of Florida. Golan’s research focuses on international communication, political communication, media effects and social media. Prior to entering academia, Golan worked as a political campaign professional in Israel.

Wayne Wanta holds the Welch-Bridgewater chair at the Oklahoma State University. �He is a former president of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication, which awarded him the Krieghbaum Under-40 for outstanding contributions to teaching, research and service. �He has more than 150 refereed journal articles and convention papers and has lectured and delivered research presentations in 32 different countries. �His research has been published in Egypt, Poland, Slovakia, Germany and Argentina. Prior to teaching at Missouri, Florida, Oregon and Southern Illinois, he received Ph.D. and master’s degrees from the University of Texas and a B.A. from the University of Wisconsin.

Thomas J. Johnson is the Marshall and Sharleen Formby Regents Professor in convergent media and a professor of journalism in the College of Mass Communications at Texas Tech University. His research interests are public opinion and political communication research, particularly the role of new media in presidential elections. More recently, he have concentrated on how people use the Internet and its components such as blog and social network sites He has also studied what effect online media have on individuals and examined credibility of both U.S. and foreign media.

An valuable resource for CDI's, however it is OBSCENELY overpriced. Truly shocked when I received, expected far more considering the asking price and product description. I've participated in HIM seminars-even free vendor/trade webcasts-which provided a higher level of detail than what the pocket guide provides regarding the nexus between coding and clinical practices. On the plus side, I do appreciate the spiral bind. ACDIS should re-evaluate the price point, they are taking advantage of their customer base---a poor reflection for a professional organization.

This title is well suited as a college textbook

Checks and Balances has served me well as a reading for my Introduction to American Government course at Augustana College. I find standard American Government textbooks to be dreadful and don't use one. I use this book as the primary reading for the institutions phase of the course (it does not cover courts, however).
The book is accessible and informative for the general reader.

About the Author
Marge Lial (late) became interested in math at an early age–it was her favorite subject in the first grade! Marge's intense desire to educate both her students and herself inspired the writing of numerous best-selling textbooks. Marge, who received Bachelor's and Master's degrees from California State University at Sacramento, was affiliated with American River College. An avid reader and traveler, her travel experiences often found their way into her books as applications, exercise sets, and feature sets. She was particularly interested in archeology; trips to various digs and ruin sites produced some fascinating problems for her textbooks involving such topics as the building of Mayan pyramids and the acoustics of ancient ball courts in the Yucatan. We dedicate the new editions of the paperback developmental math series to Marge in honor of her contributions to the field in which she helped thousands of students succeed.

When John Hornsby enrolled as an undergraduate at Louisiana State University, he was uncertain whether he wanted to study mathematics education or journalism. His ultimate decision was to become a teacher, but after twenty-five years of teaching at the high school and university levels and�fifteen years of writing mathematics textbooks, both of his goals have been realized. His love for both teaching and for mathematics is evident in his passion for working with students and fellow teachers as well. His specific professional interests are recreational mathematics, mathematics history, and incorporating graphing calculators into the curriculum. John's personal life is busy as he devotes time to his family (wife Gwen, and sons Chris, Jack, and Josh). He has been a rabid baseball fan all of his life. John's other hobbies include numismatics (the study of coins) and record collecting. He loves the music of the 1960s and has an extensive collection of the recorded works of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons.

A native Midwesterner, Terry McGinnis received her Bachelor’s of Science in Elementary Education with a concentration in Mathematics from Iowa State University. She has taught elementary and middle school mathematics, and developed and implemented the curriculum used with her students. Terry has been involved in college mathematics publishing for over 20 years, working with a variety of authors on textbooks in developmental mathematics and precalculus. After working behind the scenes on many of the Lial/Hornsby textbooks and supplements for over 10 years, Terry joined Margaret Lial and John Hornsby in 2002 as coauthor of their developmental mathematics series that includes Introductory Algebra, Intermediate Algebra, and Introductory and Intermediate Algebra. When not working, Terry enjoys spinning at a local health club, walking, and reading fiction. She is the devoted mother of two sons, Andrew and Tyler.

This is a near impossible to find book as it is old and I believe out of print. If you are interested in Macram�, try and find it as my Wife rates it as awesome, traditional Indian knotting. Easy read and full of great info!

INTERESTING BOOK

Good, must-have vintage book for those interested in macrame.
It is very old-fashioned and I miss more graphics, but there are a lot of instructions and explanations that if are followed, I think the projects can be successful. There are patterns really beautiful. In any case, a book interesting for those who love macrame.
