Laura Delizonna, PhD, specializes in the science of thriving. Her programs are practical, scalable, and science-based. She is a former researcher and instructor at Stanford University. Her courses in emotional intelligence and happiness are among the most popular courses in Continuing Studies. Participants call her trainings "life changing experiences." She is the co-author of Strategic Happiness and the forthcoming book Enhancing Emotional Intelligence. As an international professional speaker, Laura trains business leaders across the globe how they and their organizations can thrive. Ted Anstedt is CEO of Merit, a consulting company based in Silicon Valley, California. Throughout his career, Ted has specialized in assisting Fortune 500 companies to achieve their strategic objectives more effectively through higher levels of employee engagement and through behavior change. He has authored and implemented dozens of programs on Change Management, Leadership, Coaching, Supervision, Service Excellence, Team Building, and Sales, and more recently on Emotional and Social intelligence and Customer Loyalty Skills. This is an incredible book! Dr. Laura Delizonna is at the top of her field in positive psychology. I took her course on happiness at Stanford University and it was awesome! Dr. Delizonna is an amazing person. She truly cares about people. She has devoted her life to help make people's lives happier, more productive and more meaningful. You could not meet a more genuine and thoughtful person. This book is a MUST have.

A highly practical, research-based guide to improving your life

Anstedt and Delizonna were my instructors for the Stanford classes where they used an excellent early version of this book; this final version is even better.
There are a lot of personal growth, mindfulness, and psychology books that are based on anecdotes, spiritual beliefs, and stories about a few clients, plus a few exercises that seem copied from other books or are just something that sounded good to the author. This book, in contrast, has a very large set of detailed exercises and practical suggestions based on solid, modern, academic research. It's complete with extensive lists of references that you can use if you want to dig deeper.
It's not a book for ivory-tower academics, however; it's a book for people who want to move forwards in their lives and, as the title says, "thrive." Using this book in conjunction with a good therapist or coach, taking personal growth classes such as the PSI Seminars classes, or working with a dedicated friend (a "peer coach") will help you move forward quickly. But even if you just sit at home with this book by yourself and do the exercises ("self-coaching"), you'll get great value from it.
